Welcome to the Legion!

For all of us Harry Potter fans, we need all the Harry Potter things, especially now that we have a new movie being released soon. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes out next month and you can expect there to be all the informational things being released onto social media, especially Pottermore.

Today on Pottermore, the third and final installment in a collection of writing titled ‘Magic in North America’, was published on the website. This latest writing, by J.K. Rowling, explores the mysteries and origins of the Magical Congress of the United States of America aka MACUSA, the secret wizarding group that will be featured quite heavily in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie.

So, what specifically is the new story going to cover?

The new writing reveals how MACUSA was formed and tracks the odyssey of its various headquarters as it moved from an enchanted edifice in the Appalachian Mountains to Williamsburg, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; Washington, D.C.; and, finally, to New York City, where it was magically modified to be hidden from No-Majs (the American term for Muggles).

‘The Magical Congress of the United States of America’ also examines MACUSA’s place in American history, including the infamous ‘Country or Kind’ debate during the Revolutionary War, when members of the U.S. magical community questioned to whom they owed their allegiance. Another facet of the story looks at how the Statute of Secrecy—the law preventing wizards and witches from revealing the magical world to No-Majs—evolved.

Based off of the information above, we will be getting a deep and informational lesson on the MACUSA before the movie comes out. It’ll be interesting to see how the dots are connected together between the stories released on Pottermore and what we are shown in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Earlier this year, Pottermore published two previous installments of the Magic in North America series. In March we got ‘History of Magic in North America’,  which revealed the history of North American witches and wizards. In June, Pottermore released the story surrounding Ilvermorny, the North American school of magic that was founded in the 1600s. All three stories can only be exclusively found on Pottermore.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be premiering worldwide on November 16, 2016. This film marks J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut and is set in the past, a departure from what we’ve come to experience with the Harry Potter film franchise.

Make sure you check out the Pottermore video on the third installment in the North America series below. It contains more information about the recent installment. Please let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
