In an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, it was announced that David Leitch would be taking over directing the Deadpool sequel from Tim Miller. His name was one of the ones announced as a potential contender for the directing spot, but other filmmakers were in the running as well.
Since it was announced that Tim Miller was departing as the director for the sequel due to “creative differences”, 20th Century Fox has scrambled to find his replacement. Considering that they were also in the process of developing Deadpool 3 and were already having to search for a separate director for that film, they had a lot of work on their hands to try to ensure they found someone in time to keep up with the production schedule they have in place.
Luckily David Leitch is no stranger to action, which the Deadpool 2 movie will have plenty of if it is to be anything like the first movie. Prior to his directorial debut Wick, he spent years working on coordinating stunts with friend and colleague Chad Stahelski. They both created a stunt company called 87eleven, so it’s safe to say that the man knows his action stuff.
Deadpool 2 is expected to be released on January 12, 2018. Hopefully, now that they have a director, they can get the ball rolling on meeting that release date.
