In an exclusive interview with Variety, producer Kathleen Kennedy of the untitled Han Solo movie gave us a better understanding of what kind of feel they want the upcoming second Star Wars Story film they are going for to set it a part from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story:

“This moves closer to a heist or Western type feel,” says Kennedy. “We’ve talked about [Frederic] Remington and those primary colors that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film.”

Considering that Han Solo is all about that bounty hunter lifestyle, a lifestyle that has been recorded in the history of Westerns and has been represented frequently throughout Western films and TV shows as recently as HBO’s Westworld, it makes perfect sense to style this particular film in the realm of the Western. The usage of primary colors similar to Remington‘s artwork would also visually set the film a part from its Rogue One counterpart, especially if they choose to center the film around an isolating location with very few people.

And for those of you who know nothing about American artwork, which is perfectly understandable, I’ve included a link here for you to check out his artwork to help you figure out what color palette Frederic Remington uses in his paintings from the Old West. I do suggest looking him up when you get the chance, though, because his artwork is fascinating. Until then, I’ve included one of my favorite pieces of his:

Alden Ehrenreich will be starring as Han Solo with Donald Glover joining him as Lando CalrissianEmilia Clarke was recently cast in an undisclosed role. The film will focus on the origins of young Han Solo and how he became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel we first met in Episode IV.  It has also been confirmed that Chewbacca will also be a featured character in the film.

The film is currently slated for a May 25, 2018 release, but may be pushed back depending on how the production schedule goes.

What do you think of this news? Do you think going with a more Western feel will work in the Han Solo film? Let us know in the comments below.
