With Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them series weeks away from being released in theaters, you’d be surprised to know that Warner Bros. is already underway with casting and writing for the upcoming sequel.

It was revealed earlier this week by director David Yates in an interview with Empire Magazine that the next installment would be taking place in Paris, France, which would put Newt Scamander smack dab in Europe where the infamous dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is currently wrecking havoc. My theory wheel is turning so hard right now and I can’t help but wonder how much the chaos in Europe will influence Scamander’s quest for finding new creatures.

Then, there’s some surprising casting news!

As revealed today in an exclusive with Deadline, Johnny Depp has been cast in a co-starring role alongside Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them sequel. Unfortunately, that is the only information that was revealed. However, if you focus super hard, you may find a clue in the soon-to-be-released film:

I’ve confirmed this, but no one is saying exactly what role that Depp will play. But I believe that if you look carefully, you might spot him in a tiny turn in the first installment of the J.K. Rowling-created Harry Potter spinoff.[..]

I am now conflicted about this casting choice. After a very public domestic abuse scandal between Depp and Amber Heard, this may not be the best casting decision due to a variety of factors. Depp is indeed talented and has developed an array of eccentric characters that would fit in wonderfully within the Harry Potter universe. However, his newfound reputation may leave this casting decision to have a bad taste in the mouth of some Harry Potter fans. I, for one, am not sure how to feel. I’m excited because it’s more Harry Potter news, but am uncomfortable due to my particular feelings surrounding domestic abuse.

Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 18, 2016. It is directed by David Yates and is starring Eddie Redmayne as the ever eccentric Newt Scamander. This movie is author J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut as well.
