Chloe Sevigny (American Horror Story) and Kristen Stewart are tackling the story of the infamous Lizzie Borden in an upcoming gothic psychological thriller, Lizzie.
Lizzie, directed by Craig William Macneill (The Boy), dramatizes the events leading up to the murder of the Borden family. Stewart plays Bridget Sullivan, a young maid who works for the family. Her character finds Lizzie (Sevigny) to be “a sympathetic and kindred spirit,” but their “innocent companionship eventually escalates into attraction, love, and bloody vengeance.”
Spotted in the first look pic above, we see Kim Dickens (Fear the Walking Dead), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story: Asylum) standing with Stewart and Sevigny. Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter), Jamey Sheridan (Spotlight), and Jeff Perry (Scandal) also star in the film.
Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted for murdering her father and stepmother with an ax back in 1892. There have been many theories over the years about who actually committed the murders and why. It spawned a chilling nursery rhyme — “Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks. When the job was finally done, she gave her father 41” — many a haunted house episode ghost sighting TV shows, a Lifetime movie and television series starring Christina Ricci, and even a book series where the Borden murders was caused by Lovecraftian monsters.
Lizzie just finished principal photography on Friday.
