In an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Suicide Squad director David Ayer will be teaming up with Margot Robbie as a director and producer of the Gothic City Sirens film. The project is set to focus on notorious DC female villains like Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn.

Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the psychotic former psychiatrist with a need to damage everything around her with a smile on her face. She is also set to executive produce alongside Geoff Johns and Jon Berg.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet, writer of scripts for the Tomb Raider remake and Sherlock Holmes 3, is writing the script for Gothic City Sirens. So at least we have one woman creative on board in some capacity.

Given how much control Ayer had over the recent Suicide Squad and how horrible that film was in terms of writing and pacing, I’m not entirely sure he is the right individual to direct Gothic City Sirens. Suicide Squad serves as a reminder to us that Ayer may not be able to handle directing an ensemble of characters versus a select handful of people. Also, as much as I hate to admit it, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to everyone if a female director took the lead on this film given that the leads will be females? These are just general opinions that I have concerning this announcement.

There is currently no release date set for the Gothic City Sirens film, but it is apparently moving fast towards production. I’m not sure moving fast is the best way to go about it given Warner Bros’ track record on speeding up DC films.

What are your thoughts on this announcement? What do you think about David Ayer directing another DC film? Do you think someone else should replace him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
