Welcome to the Legion!

The infamous Superman villain, Mr. Mxyzptlk, is coming to Supergirl on The CW in 2017!

The reality-bending character is set to appear in two episodes, but there are no details about the nature of his visit just yet. Personally, I’m hoping he’s the reason behind the Supergirl/Flash crossover musical like when the demon in Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s “Once More with Feeling” made all of Sunnydale sing and dance until they died. It makes sense. Otherwise, seeing our heroes dance and sing out of the blue for no reason would just be silly. Awesome, but silly.

Mr. Mxyzptlk is a “fifth-dimensional imp” who often brings a sense of fun and mischief to his battles with Superman rather than straight-up malice. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a little destruction here and there, though. He has been known to make a building come to life and start walking around town, crushing everything in its path.

In most iterations of Mr. Mxyzptlk, he can only comes into our plane of existence every so often, not whenever he wants. When he does appear, he usually has to be tricked into saying or writing his name backwards to be sent back. What better way to trick him into saying his name backwards than through song? (I’m really setting myself up for disappointment, aren’t I? Hope not ^_^)

Supergirl airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. New episodes will return in January after next week’s mid-season finale. There is currently no known date for the episodes in which will feature Mr. Mxyzptlk.
