Walt Disney Studios released a 30 second sound snippet last night that provided us with an example of Emma Watson’s singing for the upcoming movie. In the brief clip, Watson sings part of “Something There” from Beauty and the Beast.

Her voice is clear, though you can hear a little bit of autotune within the clip. Unfortunately, there’s so much reliance on autotune nowadays that it would be surprising if autotune wasn’t used to smooth out the voices. I’m reserving most of my judgement but, I will say, that this is an oddly refreshing clip because of the lack of perfection in the voice that suits the character. Mind you, this is just my opinion.

Unlike their live-action version of CinderellaDisney’s live-action version of Beauty and the Beast will be featuring the original music from the animated classic, so there will be loads of singing from the cast. The score for the film will be updated with additional songs written by Alan Menken.

The official synopsis is below:

Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
