Sense8 won’t officially drop for its second season until May 5, 2017 on Netflix, but that’s not stopping the Wachowskis from giving us the gift of a Christmas Special.
The special, which debuts December 23, 2016, is really the first episode of Season Two. In the trailer below, are still living their lives, but they’re even more aware of their Sense-mates scattered across the world.
Lana Wachowski also taped a message explaining the reasoning behind making a Christmas special for a show that wouldn’t even bother if helmed by anyone else.
When I was a kid, I loved holiday specials in the shows I used to watch. Holidays can make you feel so connected, in the way holidays can make you feel so isolated and alone. I wanted to tell a story in the first episode that was kind of about time in the present and how the new lives these characters were experiencing made them feel empowered, like they could do anything as long as they’re together.
Season Two will pick up where Season One left off — with Capheus, Kala, Lito, Nomi, Riley, Sun, Will and Wolfgang all coming together physically and mentally, and plunged into the middle of each other’s tragedies and triumphs. They’re still being hunted by the Whispers, and are forced to question their very identity. Now that the Sensates are aware of each other, they must adjust, survive, and protect one another against all odds.
Sense8 arrives on Netflix on debuts December 23, 2016. The show is executive produced by Lana Wachowski, Grant Hill, J. Michael Straczynski.
