Walton Goggins from The Hateful 8 is in final negotiations to join the MGM and GK Films reboot of Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, as the antagonist.
MGM acquired the rights to the classic video game series back in 2013 in a partnership with Graham King of GK Films, who acquired the franchise from Square Enix in 2011 with the intention of becoming a producer.
The original Tomb Raider video game series debuted in 1996 by Eidos. It became an instant hit selling 35 million units. Square Enix rebooted the series with Crystal Dynamics in 2013, which featured a younger Croft just setting out on her first adventure ever.
MGM recently announced that the film is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2018 with Norwegian director Roar Uthaug at the helm. Since this is a reboot, it’ll have no relation to Paramount‘s two Lara Croft films from 2001 and 2003, which both starred Angelina Jolie.
Warner Bros. is set co-produce as well.
