At the Critics” Choice Awards, Legion of Leia got a chance to chat with Ryan Murphy, showrunner for hits like American Horror Story, The People vs. OJ Simpson, and Scream Queens. The prime time creator caught us with where ‘Half,’ his initiative to diversify his directing, crew and writing room staff, stands since its start in February. The foundations mentors TV newcomers including women, people of color and/or members of the LGBTQ community. It aimed to fill least 50 percent of the directing jobs on his shows; American Crime Story, American Horror Story, Scream Queens and and Feud.
We also tried getting him to spill the beans on the next season of AHS and what movies he’s most looking forward to.
Since our interview, Murphy has surpassed his goal with 60 percent of his directing gigs going to women, creators of color and the LGBT community. He’s putting the industry standard of 17% to shame! And we couldn’t be more happy! Hopefully they’ll follow suit.
