Time for some good news, bad news. Good news: Star Trek: Discovery is still moving along. In fact, they just cast Spock’s father. Bad news: the series is delayed…again.
CBS All-Access’ upcoming series, Star Trek: Discovery, made its first big link to the main Star Trek television universe. Entertainment Weekly reports that James Frain (Gotham) has been cast to play Spock’s father, Sarek. For those unfamiliar with the series, Sarek is the Vulcan ambassador to the United Federation of Planets. He is also known for marrying a human woman, who is portrayed by Winona Ryder in the 2009 film which is set in an alternate timeline.
Frain joins Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), who will play the lead officer, and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Anthony Rapp (Dazed and Confused).
Also being reported this week is that CBS has pushed back Discovery’s release date once again. The series was previously moved back from February to May of this year, and at the same time Bryan Fuller stepped down as showrunner last October. Production for the series begins next week, but CBS hasn’t provided us a new release date just yet.
