Simon Kinberg Could Write and Direct the Next X-Men Movie

Writer/producer Simon Kinberg is looking to make his directorial debut with the next X-Men movie, according to Collider‘s multiple sources. Furthermore, he’s already written a screenplay that may focus on one of the comic book series’ most memorable story arcs, the Dark Phoenix.

Nothing is currently set in stone right now, so take Kinberg’s involvement/aspirations with a grain of salt. What we do know for sure is that Game of Thrones‘ actor Sophie Turner will be reprising her role of Jean Grey.

HeyUGuys caught up with Turner on the red carpet at the BAFTAs and asked what projects she had coming up. She replied, “We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men, we’ve just finished shooting Season 7 of [Game of] Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8.”

There are two X-Men projects Fox is currently cooking up: New Mutants and the rumored X-Men: Supernova. The latter of which is further rumored to involve the world-breaking entity, Dark Phoenix. Again, all rumors right now.

The rumored plot according to Screen Rant via My Entertainment World:

Gathered together by Professor Charles Xavier to protect a world that fears and hates them, the X-Men had fought many battles, been on adventures that spanned galaxies, grappled enemies of limitless might, but none of this could prepare them for the most shocking struggle they would ever face. One of their own members, Jean Grey, has gained power beyond all comprehension, and that power has corrupted her absolutely! Now they must decide if the life of the woman they cherish is worth the existence of the entire universe!

If we are going to revisit Dark Phoenix, let’s hope we don’t end up with another cluster like X-Men 3.
