Warner Bros. Wants to Do a Live-Action Nightwing Movie

Chris McKay to direct DAT ASS a film based on the best known member of the Batman fam.

Warner Bros. is planning to dig a little deeper into the Batman family roster and make a film about the Dark Knight’s protégé, Nightwing. Chris McKay, who directed The LEGO Batman Movie, is currently in negotiations to helm the project, with Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) writing the script.

Nightwing, aka Dick Grayson, is perhaps best known for being the original Robin. Before coming to live with Bruce Wayne as his young ward, Grayson was raised in a family of traveling acrobats known as the Flying Graysons. During a show at Gotham, Dick’s parents tragically died in what was made to look like an accident. Bruce Wayne, who was in attendance at the time, saw the parallels to his own childhood tragedy and felt compelled to take the young Grayson in and raise him himself. It’s not until later that Dick became Robin, who eventually became the leader of the Teen Titans, and then grew up to become Nightwing. When he’s not helping Batman protect the citizens of Gotham, he’s sometimes seen around Blüdhaven, the New Jersey to Gotham’s New York.

As Nightwing, many fans have come to recognize Dick Grayson as “Dat Ass.” A sort of inside joke/term of endearment which refers to his artfully crafted backside.

If a Nightwing movie is greenlit, this will be the character’s live-action film debut. The Robin persona has yet to officially appear in any of Warner Bros.’ live-action movies, though we do know he has existed within the current movie universe at some point since there is a graffiti-covered suit displayed in Batman’s cave. Note that there have been several different Robins throughout Batman’s career. The one depicted in Batman v Superman might have been a reference to Jason Todd, the second Robin who was infamously killed by the Joker. Though, Zack Snyder did not explicitly say which one he had in mind in the movie.
