Welcome to the Legion!

Watch the Hamilton mastermind at work with the animation team to create music for our latest Disney heroine.

No really, it’s like an army of awesome.

Sitting with the directors, story-board artists, animators and writers of Moanathe magic that is Lin-Manuel Miranda fits seamlessly with the collaborative minds working under the Disney umbrella of creatives. Also, could you just imagine sitting with your idols, the people who inspired you to do what you do and making something new with them? That’s what Lin got to do with John Musker and Ron Clements who directed The Little Mermaid aka the movie that thrust Miranda into musical theater. Now he’s an Oscar nominee for best song for a film directed by his heroes.

In the clip we also get to hear Miranda’s thoughts on the song writing process for Moana’s ‘I want’ song and get some fantastic advice for writers out there. “I put myself in the character’s shoes, I talk to myself until what comes out feels honest and then I write it down.” he shared over clips of him writing followed by clips of Auli’i Cravalho recording the song and finally the finished produced in the animated motion picture.

So freakin’ cool!

Moana will be released by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on Blu-ray (2D and 3D) and DVD in the United States on March 7, 2017, with a digital release on February 21.
