Disney & Pixar Release Teaser for Brand New Film, Coco
Disney & Pixar just released a teaser trailer for their upcoming animated feature titled Coco. It follows aspiring musician Miguel (voiced by newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) who teams up with a trickster named Hector (Gael García Bernal) on an extraordinary adventure through the Land of the Dead.
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Go ahead. Get your Book of Life comparisons out now. Although, this sounds like it will be completely different from Guillermo Del Toro’s own animated romp through the Land of the Dead. At least the protagonist and his dog doesn’t die in this one. Or does he?
Aside from inadvertently killing a kid on screen (technically speaking), Coco looks like it’ll be a fun and musical journey through Mexican culture and the eyes of an aspiring young musician. I wonder if Bratt is playing a character based on the real-life Pedro Infante, an iconic star during the golden age of Mexican cinema. If so…I see you, Pixar, and I applaud the shout-out.
Coco is directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist of Monsters University) and produced by Darla K. Anderson (Toy Story 3).
Disney & Pixar’s Coco opens in U.S. theaters on November 22, 2017.
