Welcome to the Legion!

In an exclusive by Variety, it was revealed that Joss Whedon is nearing a deal with Warner Bros. to write, direct, and produce a standalone Batgirl film.

For a character as popular as Batgirl is, it’s surprising that Batgirl hasn’t gotten her own film yet. Usually Batgirl is relegated to the role of sidekick next to Batman. I’m not even going to mention the whole bs role she had in the recently animated Killing Joke. It hurts me to just think about it.

Considering we are just now getting a live-action solo film for Wonder Woman, it isn’t surprising that we are just now getting the Batgirl solo film.

If anyone could make a Batgirl film interesting enough to catch our attention, it would be Whedon. Considering his work in the geeky realm like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, The Avengers, etc., we have a pretty substantial track record proving that he would know how to handle the material. However, my biggest concern surrounding Whedon joining the DC Cinematic Universe is how studio-heavy Warner Bros. has been with their DC works.

What do you think of this news? Who would you like to see in the Batgirl position if Whedon and Warner Bros. can come to an agreement? Do you think Whedon will do a good job? Let us know in the comments below.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be over in the corner whimsically screaming with glee that we’re getting closer to more solo female superhero film stuff.
