Welcome to the Legion!

In an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Margot Robbie will be headlining Sony’s Robin Hood inspired film as Marian.

This Robin Hood film won’t be focusing so much on the titular hero that we’ve come to fixate on. Instead, the film will be focusing on the maiden he came to love and cherish within the original English folklore. This would mark one of the first times the story has fixated on the Maid Marian character in mainstream pop culture.

The proposed synopsis is as follows:

Marian unfolds after the death of Robin Hood, the love of her life. The titular maiden then picks up his cause to lead her people into a pivotal war that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but also see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.

This is apparently not the only Robin Hood inspired film in the works. Lionsgate is apparently working on a Robin Hood origin story, because we definitely need another Robin Hood origin film, that is set to be released May 2018. Out of the two proposed films, I think the Marian focused one is of more interest to me. We’ve seen numerous origin films for Robin Hood. It’s about time we focus on other characters within the English folklore.

What do you think of this casting information? Are you more excited for a Marian-focused Robin Hood film? Or would you prefer they just leave those properties alone entirely? Let us know in the comments below.
