Meet Gru's Twin Brother in New Trailer for Despicable Me 3

Illumination just released a brand new trailer for their upcoming animated feature, Despicable Me 3, which continues the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes. This time, the family tree gets a little bigger with the introduction of Gru’s twin brother, Dru. You can take a look at the trailer and poster below!

Gru has fallen on some hard times after letting Balthazar Bratt (voiced by Trey Parker) go. Even Margo, Edith and Agnes start selling their earthly possessions just so they can help their family make ends meet. Then one day, out of nowhere, a job offer comes along from Gru’s twin brother, Dru.

It’s a classic cartoon movie move — a sibling of the main character suddenly appears out of nowhere. No mention of him in previous movies, nor of the fact that Gru even had a sibling let alone one that looked just like him…but with a luscious head of golden blonde hair. Dru wants to team up with Gru for a heist, to return to the family business of villainy. Don’t know how well that will go over with the missus and their three daughters, though….

Joining Steve Carell (who voices Gru and Dru) and Kristen Wiig (who voices Lucy) in Despicable Me 3 is Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winner Trey Parker, co-creator of Comedy Central’s South Park and the Broadway hit The Book of Mormon. Parker voices the villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who’s grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the ‘80s, and proves to be Gru’s most formidable nemesis to date.

The film is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, co-directed by Eric Guillon and written by Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio. It’s produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and executive produced by Chris Renaud.

Despicable Me 3 will be released in theaters on June 30, 2017.
