John Simm Returns to Doctor Who for Series 10

John Simm Returns to Play the Master on Doctor Who Series 10

Having more than one Doctor in an episode is not a new concept for Doctor Who, but two Masters? Can our wee little brains even handle such madness? In Series 10, Peter Capaldi will have to match wits not only with Michelle Gomez, but also John Simm. Both of whom will co-exist as the Doctor’s greatest nemesis.

BBC confirmed that Simm is returning to play the Master for the first time since “The End of Time,” which was the final story for David Tennant and showrunner Russell T. Davies.

“I can confirm that it’s true,” Simm said in a statement. “Thanks to the power of time travel I’m back. It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series.”

Steven Moffat also issued a statement, “Nothing stays secret for long on Doctor Who but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what the Master is up to and how he makes his return to face the Doctor. It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favourites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash.”

It’s already been confirmed that Gomez will be around for the two-part Series 10 finale, which will also feature the return of the OG Cybermen. Wow. Let that sink in for a moment — Cybermen AND two Masters. This is going to be one crazy ride.

Doctor Who premieres Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 9/8c on BBC America.
