A New Indiana Jones Movie? But Why Though?
In the sea of announcements that The Walt Disney Company made today surrounding their future releases schedule, the announcement that the Indiana Jones 5 movie that has been in pre-production hell finally has a release date. The untitled Indiana Jones 5 movie will be tentatively released on July 10, 2020.
Harrison Ford is set on returning to his role of Indiana Jones. Steven Spielberg will once again be directing the fifth installment in the franchise. It is not yet known if George Lucas will be involved with this installment.
Although this is a supposedly exciting announcement, I have to ask why do we even need this fifth installment? I could understand if Disney decided to just reboot the series, which was rumored to be happening with Chris Pratt as the front runner for taking on the titular role, but I can’t understand why it would be a smart idea to make a fifth Indiana Jones movie with a noticeably aged Harrison Ford. Especially after so many fans hated the last Indiana Jones movie.
Logically, I understand this is just Disney milking its properties. However, it just doesn’t make sense to me from an emotional, fangirl standpoint.
What do you think about this news? Do you have similar thoughts about the fifth installment? Do you think I’m being too harsh? Because I do think I’m being too harsh. Let us know in the comments below.
Harrison Ford will be closing in on 80 by the time Indy 5 comes out. He turns 75 in July and this movie hasn’t even begun preproduction… He’s just too old to be playing the action hero!
Time to hang up the fedora Harry!
Disney will never let this go though, so here’s hoping the Chi’s Pratt rumor somehow comes true.
