Sony Snatches Up ‘Wheel of Time’ TV Series

After the most awkward hiatus of information surrounding the potential TV adaptation of Robert Jordon’s Wheel of Time series, we finally have an update on progress.

Variety revealed today that Sony Pictures Television will be going forward with the Wheel of Time series.

The series will be based on the high fantasy novels written by Robert Jordan, the pen name of James O. Rigney Jr. There are 14 novels in total, beginning with The Eye of the World in 1990 and concluding with A Memory of Light, which was finished by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s death in 2007. They follow the quest to find the Dragon Reborn, who it is said will help unite forces to combat The Dark One.

Adaptations of The Wheel of Time series have had a hard time getting launched past a development stage. Knowing that adaptations have struggled to get up and off their feet, I can’t help but take a step back and question whether or not this project will actually make it to production. Mind you, I am super cynical.
