As revealed by StarWars.com, The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm announced today two major upcoming release dates. The most important one being the Star Wars: Episode IX date.

Star Wars: Episode IX is now set for release on May 24, 2019. The date is subject to change depending on how production and post-production go.

This is a strange new development because, since Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we’ve come to expect Star Wars specific releases to appear around the holidays.

However, I don’t mind the change. I grew up with the prequel trilogy we try not to acknowledge happened, and that had always premiered during the summer. Having the Star Wars franchise move their premieres to the summer won’t change their revenue intake, in my opinion, and it may be more convenient for families during the holidays due to finances.

The film will be directed by Colin Trevorrow. With this film, it will close out the current Star Wars trilogy. After that, the sky is the limit.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited? Are you sad that the trilogy will be ending? Let us know your thoughts.
