Welcome to the Legion!

Hey Star Wars friends!

I have two new rumors for us this week: The first is about a potentially exciting plotline in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the second is about the rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff!

As always, PLEASE STOP READING NOW if you would like to avoid any potential Star Wars rumors and spoilers.

Alright! Here we go!

1.) Luke Skywalker’s necklace in Star Wars: The Last Jedi could be kind of a huge deal.

Making Star Wars has reported that, in the upcoming film, Luke will wear a necklace that has a red crystal hanging from the bottom of it. The theory here is that the crystal could actually be Kyber crystal from his father, Darth Vader’s, lightsaber.

Sounds awesome. If this rumor is true, it could be a propelling plotline for the film.

Not only would it facilitate our edification of Luke’s feelings about this father and the Dark Side, but it would also give Kylo Ren a solid reason to go after him.

You know Kylo Ren would want that crystal. — There’s no way he wouldn’t go after it with everything he’s got. Kylo Ren is equally obsessed with power and with his grandfather. Finding this crystal could be, in his twisted mind, the one thing that solidifies his commitment to the Dark Side. Especially if he’s carrying even the slightest feelings of remorse after, ya know, brutally killing his father.

Furthermore, I can picture Luke talking about how he keeps the crystal with him to remind him of his father and what he became; almost like the necklace is a symbol of what can happen to those who are powerful, Force-sensitive, and capable of so much good, but fall to the Dark Side instead of the Light.

Mayyyyyybe I’m going off the deep end here; maybe I’m not. Obviously, based on my tangent, you can see how much I dig this potential storyline.

And, as MSW pointed out, the necklace may just be an Easter Egg for us super-fans; it may not be a part of a greater plot at all.

Per usual, we’ll just have to wait and see.

2.) Sam Esmail (creator of Mr. Robot), may write the Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars Anthology Film.

YEEEEEPPPPPPPPP. This is a real thing. Maybe.

Omega Underground originally reported this rumor. According to them, they hung onto the rumor for a short time until they received news from “two separate sources” that Lucasfilm was talking with Esmail about writing a Star Wars anthology film.

And OU’s sources reportedly believe the film in question is the Obi-Wan film.

I can’t help but feel that this could be an amazing fit for our beloved Obi-Wan. We know so little about his past and, as I have gushed about before, I can’t wait to learn more about him.

OU referenced this quote from Esmail during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“…I’ve seen a lot of similarities with The Empire Strikes Back, in terms of Luke/Elliot going away and isolating themselves, while their sister is out there and battling the evil empire.”

Hmmm… What about the comparison between Obi-Wan and Elliot? [For those who don’t know, Elliot is the main character in Mr. Robot.] I think they may have even stronger similarities. They are both incredibly likeable, quick-witted, wise, isolated, and they understand the world around them in a very unique way.

Esmail and Obi-Wan could be the perfect match. I’ll keep my ear to the ground for more details on this rumor.
