Today Peter Jackson released concept art on his Facebook page for his upcoming project, Mortal Engines. It looks beautiful and full of fantasy, which seems to just be where Jackson’s heart and soul resides.

For those of you unfamiliar with Mortal Engines like me, Mortal Engines will be an adaptation of the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve. Set in a world many thousand years in the future, Mortal Engines begins as Earth’s cities now roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources.  On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands who will change the course of his life forever.

Peter Jackson is serving as a producer and a co-writer on this project. Christian Rivers will be making his directorial debut with this film. This is not Rivers’ first time diving into the fantasy genre. He’s worked on and off with Peter Jackson’s projects for years, winning an Academy Award for his visual effects work on Jackson’s King Kong.

The cast of Mortal Engines consists of Hugo Weaving, Robbie Sheehan, Ronan Raferty, Hera Hilmar, Stephen Lang, Jihae, Leila George, Colin Salmon, Patrick Malahide, and Rege-Jean Page.

The film is expected to be released in theaters on December 14, 2018. What do you think about the concept art? Let us know your thoughts.
