In an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, it was reported today that Alice Braga has signed onto New Mutants, taking over the role meant for Rosario Dawson. No reasons have been given for Dawson’s departure.
Braga will play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself but also has more going on than she lets on. If you are interested in delving more into the character, please check out the link here.
The exact details concerning the New Mutants plot are still be finalized, but we do know that the studio is taking more of a horror approach, which I think personally works well with this particular group of mutants. I speak out about the potential of them going the horror route in my article here.
However, the tentative details of the plot can be found below:
“We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” director Josh Boone says. “There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different. Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”
New Mutants is set to be released of April 13, 2018. This is subject to change though based off of the production schedule.
