Welcome to the Legion!

It looks like this year’s Anime Expo is starting off bigger and better than ever!

This Friday, June 30, brings an exciting new experience to Los Angeles: Anime Expo Pre-Show Night! For years anime fans have gone to the Los Angeles Convention Center to pick up their badges and pray for a glimpse of the days to come. I can confirm this as a long running attendee of the convention (this will be my 10th year). This year, Anime Expo starts the night off with over 80 hours of programming! Geez. Make sure you down all those Monster energy drinks, guys!

When asked about why the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation added this pre-show, CEO Mark Manansala, responded:

“For years, our attendees have been looking for more; more programming, more experiences, more days. Picking up your badge the day before has become an AX tradition, and this year we are honoring this tradition with a whole night dedicated to the days to come.”

Here is what to expect for the Pre-Show:

Pre-Show Highlights

  • Food Wars Dub Premiere
  • Funimation Film Fest (The Boy and the Beast, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Evangelion 2.2, and Akira)
  • Full Metal Panic 15th anniversary panel with light novelist Shoji Gatoh and illustrator Shiki Doji.
  • AX Dance Nights and AX Kick-Off Party
  • Maid Café and Night Café
