What We Learned at the Cars 3 Press Conference with Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Nathan Fillion and More!

This past weekend in Anaheim, CA, a press conference for the Disney/Pixar film Cars 3 took place with stars Owen Wilson who plays #95 Lightning McQueen, Armie Hammer who plays his newer, younger rival in racing, Jackson Storm, Cristela Alonzo who plays young trainer with big dreams, Cruz Ramirez, Kerry Washington who plays brilliant racing statistician Natalie Certain, Nathan Fillion who plays Sterling, the owner of the training facility and the Rust-Eze team, Larry the Cable Guy who plays Mater, Isiah Whitlock Jr. who plays old timer River Scott, Lea DeLaria who plays demolition derby champion Miss Fritter and director Brian Fee, who was a storyboard artist for Cars and Cars 2. Here’s what we learned about Cars 3 from the press conference! Cars 3 opens in theaters today!

Armie Hammer had a lot to say about the future of the fast and cartooned, a.k.a. the next generation of racers, “Ah, man, it’s defintely a change. He’s [Jackson Storm] part of this group called the next gen, and they’re just faster, they’re smarter, they’re.. better looking. I’m just saying. I mean look at that thing. Look at it. It’s pretty damn good looking. But at the same time, there’s not the same heart in it. There’s not the same spirit or love in it. It’s just sort of like a technicality.  So that’s hard. It’s definetly like a paradigm shift in a world where so much of it is the love of the game.”

Owen Wilson talked about what endears them to us and makes us relate to the characters. “I think it’s also the animators — they did a pretty good job of animating the cars before they were figuring out where they were doing the eyes and stuff, that there’s something kind of human or inviting about the expressions. And so, I think that kind of helps to make the cars more relatable and life-like to people. I think that’s a big part of it. And the voices. And the voices, you know. The voices pumped a little life into it.”

Cristela Alonzo talked new blood and the drive we all have,” Well, Cruz Ramirez is a great little character. What I like about her is that she’s very good at what she does but at the same time she still has doubts about herself regarding the skills she uses for the cars to become the best cars they can be. She’s very relatable for boys and girls, in that you might have doubts about things, or you don’t know how you’re going to pull something off, and at the end of the day you realize that the only way you can make sure that you can do your best it to actually just go for it and trust your instincts. And I think that’s something that we all experience. And then you realize we all are going to have doubts, forget the doubts, lets just try are best and do it anyways. And I love that about her.”

Kerry Washington ” I think — I’m just happy to be a part of this franchise. I’ve been such a fan for such a long time. So it’s just a pleasure to just be a part of this family. I do think it’s fun to see women in the film that are brave and smart. And courageous and also teachable. You know, women that balance challenges and intellect but are also humble enough to learn the lessons that they have to learn by the end of the film. To learn that you have to step into your greatness and it’s not as simple as numbers. That heart and passion are the most important thing.”

Nathan Fillion on being car-ified, ” I will say they nailed the eye color on Sterling and the only reason the Sterling car isn’t here right now is that its actually so nice someone’s out driving it.”

So, what do you guys think of the new info from Cars 3@LegionofLeia? Are you guys excited to see the film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or tweet us !
