FINALLY! Batman May Get to be a Detective for Once
Director Matt Reeves is doing interviews for War For The Planet Of The Apes right now, but once that’s over (next month) we’ll all get to ask questions about his next venture (without becoming “that guy”), the Batman.
While chatting with New Trailer Buzz, Reeves strongly hinted at the direction the next Batman film might take. To many fans of the Dark Knight, Reeves’ idea will sound like sweet music to their ears.
I think there’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point of view driven in a very, very powerful way that is hopefully going to connect you to what’s going inside of his head, and inside of his heart.
News on Batman’s next movie has stayed mostly quiet since Ben Affleck’s exit as the writer and director, and then Matt Reeves getting tapped to take his place. The screenplay is reportedly being rewritten, but we won’t know any more than that until sometime after Reeves is finished promoting War for the Planet of the Apes.
To do a noir-driven Batman movie would be fantastic. This is literally what I’ve been waiting to hear for YEARS. So often it is forgotten that Batman is supposed to be the world’s greatest detective and not just the guy who saves us from an apocalypse every other day. A guy can do two things, y’know. My favorite Batman story of all time is The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Hopefully we’ll get something within the same vein as that. I tentatively wait for more news in the coming months.
