Welcome to the Legion!

Yesterday  Universal Pictures released a sneak peak introducing us to the two women characters in their upcoming reboot of The Mummy. Spoilers: One of them is the mummy.

Fair warning because now I am going to go on a minute rant.

The sneak peak markets both of the characters, played by Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella respectfully, as leading characters. However, I have to call bs on behalf of the marketing team of this movie. Why? Because, until we saw this sneak peak, I had no idea that Annabelle Wallis’ Jenny was a leading character. The way she’s been introduced to us via the marketing has come across as a supporting female character.

This has been a complaint of mine with Universal’s marketing of this movie. The trailers should be conveying this information to us, but we have been getting this information via behind-the-scenes footage and sneak peaks. Jenny comes across strong and somewhat formidable in this sneak peak, but she does not in any of the trailers. Why the disconnect between marketing? Why the inconsistency? Anyway, please check out the sneak peak below and let us know your thoughts.

The official synopsis is below:

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy. Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Oscar® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator).

The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan. Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, produces alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.

The Mummy will premiere in theaters on June 9, 2017. Are you ready?
