Bryce Dallas Howard to Make Directing Debut, Sorta Like a Rock Star
Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard truly is taking after her father, Ron Howard. The actor is going to make her directing debut on an adaptation of a Matthew Quick novel, Sorta Like a Rock Star, according to Variety.
This won’t be Howard’s very first try at directing, however. Before signing onto Sorta Like a Rock Star, Bryce directed a handful of short films as well as a music video starring Lily Collins. But this will be her first full-length movie debut.
The film is already in early development with no distributor signed on at the moment.
Sorta Like a Rock Star follows high school student Amber Appleton, who secretly lives in a school bus during her senior year after her mom’s boyfriend kicked them out. As the the “self-proclaimed princess of hope and girl of unyielding optimism, [Amber] refuses to sweat the bad stuff. But when a fatal tragedy threatens Amber’s optimism–and her way of life, can Amber continue to be the rock star of hope?”
Bryce’s first short film, “When You Find Me,” was part of the Canon: Project Imagin8ion initiative that her father began in 2015 as way to give aspiring directors to get their foot in the door and show their stuff. It wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, but it did make the Academy’s short list for the short film category.
