D23 Expo: ‘The Last Jedi’ Cast Reveal Behind the Scenes Footage

The Last Jedi Director Ryan Johnson took the stage during the Walt Disney Studios Live Action Films panel on Saturday at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. He was joined by stars of upcoming film Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, and later, Mark Hamill.

In commenting about what Finn will get to do in the upcoming Star Wars film, Boyega glared up at the significantly taller Christie and hints that we’ll likely see a proper confrontation between Finn and Phasma. “Finn’s about to have a fight with a formidable opponent.”

Throughout the Star Wars: The Last Jedi section of the panel, the audience was shown behind the scenes photos, including one featuring Rose wearing an Imperial costume.

Johnson said that Rose treated the set like an episode of Mister Rogers. She would pop in everywhere and want to know what people were doing all over the production. Rose said that she wanted to do as much as she could without getting into trouble (she never got into trouble).

Another photo showed Dern wielding a gun. Apparently she had some trouble not saying “pew!” every time she pulled the trigger — much like when Ewen McGregor always felt tempted to make whooshing sounds every time he swung around his lightsaber. I mean…wouldn’t you do the same?

When Hamill finally walked onto the stage, Johnson couldn’t help gushing at the actor, saying that he was proof that the advice “Never meet your heroes” doesn’t always apply.

At the end of the presentation, the gang unleashed a brand new, behind-the-scenes look at The Last Jedi. You can take a look below!
