During the Walt Disney Studios Live Action Films panel on Saturday, director Ava DuVernay took to the stage to talk about her adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, the first in a series of books written by Madeleine L’Engle. Joining the director were stars Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine.

While on stage, DuVernay said that one of the most important aspects of the film was to make a movie with a cast that looks like the real world.

Pine was unfamiliar with the book series going in, but he says that within five minutes of meeting DuVernay, he knew he wanted to be in the movie. “Ava thinks in this macro way that is very, very special,” he says. “It’s about hitting the notes on the page, but there’s also something of a — to use A Wrinkle in Time speak — cosmic level.”

Kaling talked a little about her character Mrs. Who, who speaks entirely in riddles. Some of Mrs. Who’s quotations from the book have been updated a little. There’s even a Jay-Z quote.

As for Witherspoon, she grew up as a huge fan of the book series. She said that DuVernay “has a particular skill finding the beauty of the entire world in her work.”

Winfrey had not read the book herself, but was pleased that DuVernay invited her to play the wisest character in the universe. She also gets to work closely with Witherspoon and Kaling and will “wear incredible costumes.” “Who wouldn’t say yes to that?” she said.

Towards the end of the presentation, the cast and crew announce that everyone in the audience will be given a new poster for the movie, which was given away at the end of the panel.

“I’ve got this,” laughs Orpah. “Everyone gets a poster! You get a poster! And you get a poster!”

At the conclusion of their presentation, DuVernay and company showed the movies first teaser trailer. You can watch below.

Update: We added the official movie poster below, after the teaser trailer.
