Fashion Tips from Atomic Blonde’s Cindy Evans
Atomic Blonde is not just a kick ass female empowerment must see. Its also a fashion lovers dream. In between punching, fighting and taking names, Charlize Theron was rocking some major fashion moments. Legion of Leia got to chat with the amazing talent behind the looks in the film, costume designer Cindy Evans.
LEGION OF LEIA : WHAT WAS IT LIKE REVISTING SOME CLASSIC SHAPES AND LOOKS OF THE 80S?
CINDY EVANS : It definitely took a minute to adjust. the 80’s can be so comical, we wanted to highlight as much of the cool style as possible.
LEGION OF LEIA : WHAT STYLE OR POP ICONS DID YOU PULL FROM FOR INSPIRATION?
CINDY EVANS : I looked at a lot of Helmut Newton and Blondie images for inspiration for Lorraine’s character. Also I used a good amount of punk rock images of the late 80’s in Europe, specifically Berlin.
LEGION OF LEIA : WERE THEIR DIFFICULTIES STYLE WISE WITH THE PHYSICALITY OF THE CHARACTERS? DID YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THINGS BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF ACTION?
CINDY EVANS : There were challenges for sure, but we made it work. The choreography was intense, so any stretch in the clothing went a long way.
LEGION OF LEIA : IF YOU COULD STEAL ANY PIECE OF WARDROBE FROM SET, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
CINDY EVANS : The white vinyl trench coat John Galliano made for Lorraine, is ever cool for sure.
LEGION OF LEIA : ANY TIPS FOR GALS, OR GUYS OUT THERE WANTING TO GET THE ATOMIC BLONDE LOOK?
CINDY EVANS : Yeah, buy a wig, some good shades and it’s all about attitude from there. Atomic Blonde is a state of mind, I think?
Atomic Blonde is an awesome thrill ride that’ll have you wanting to take on the world in stilettos. Rush or cooly walk to see the film, coming to theaters July 28, 2017!
