In a Variety exclusive, it was revealed that Felicity Jones is now attached to star in an untitled Swan Lake film based off of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet. Although not specified, she will probably be playing the infamous Odette.
The untitled Swan Lake project will not be a ballet-based film. Instead, the film will focus primarily on the story behind Swan Lake and will hopefully stay away from talking animals and musical numbers like the animated version of the ’90s.
Luca Guadagnino, known for directing A Bigger Splash and the upcoming remake of Suspiria, has agreed to direct the film. Kristina Lauren Anderson, who has been working on TNT’s The Alienist, will be penning the script if the project goes forward. So far no major studios have picked it up yet, but there are several bidders for the property according to Variety.
Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake tell the tale of Odette, a princess who was turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer and is doomed to transform into a swan every time the sun rises. The ballet was thrust back into mainstream interest after the release of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan a few years ago, which loosely focuses on Odette and Odile, Odette’s evil counterpart.
