It was announced today by Marvel and Netflix that Lucy Liu will be directing the premiere episode of Season 2 of Luke Cage. Lucy Liu has been transitioning more into directing, having directed several episodes of CBS’s take on the Sherlock Holmes story in their show Elementary. She has also directed on episode of Graceland.

“What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint out world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters,” Liu said. “It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team.”

Lucy Liu taking the director’s seat in Luke Cage is being met with open arms by the Marvel team. Executive producer, Jeph Loeb, had this to say with Marvel’s collaboration with Liu on the premiere episode:

“When you are dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof director. Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors. She is rocking Luke Cage 2.”

Season 2 of Marvel’s Luke Cage has returning cast members Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Rosario Dawson (Clair Temple), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), and Theo Rossi (Shades).

There are also a couple of new members to the cast. Mustafa Shakir joins as John McIver, a natural leader, brimming with charisma, whose mission is focused on Harlem and vengeance. Gabrielle Dennis also joins as Tilda Johnson, a brillian, holistic doctor with a complicated history in Harlem where, as much as she tries her hardest to stay away from trouble, it seems to always find her.

Season 2 of Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2018. If you can’t wait that long for Cage, check him out next month in Marvel’s The Defenders, which will premiere on August 18.
