SDCC 2017: New Netflix Film BRIGHT Announced with Trailer
At their first San Diego Comic-Con panel, Netflix announced their new film Bright, starring Will Smith. They also shared a trailer for their upcoming original film which you can see below.
Bright seems to still be in the same vein as many of the other fantasy/syfy films we know and love. However, it also appears to be bringing something new to the table. I am really excited by the trailer; the fact that the film is going to be from the perspective of police officers is something that instantly intrigued me. My hope is that this unique perspective allows for the audience to have a very broad, overarching view of this world full of human, trolls, fairies, etc., all trying to coexist.
From what we see of Smith’s character talking to his daughter about race and then talking about the new “diversity hire” with another LAPD officer, it is clear that the film will tackle and shine a light on that larger, prevalent issue and I’m really looking forward to seeing how that is accomplished.
Additionally, the film looks like it will be full of adventure and action. Then throw in a magical “nuclear weapon” wand that I can’t wait to learn more about, and I’m sold!
And, of course, the trailer also gives us a look at Smith being his funny, charming self which will add humor and levity to what appears to be the dark, gritty world of Bright. (See the dichotomy there?! Love that.)
The film’s screenplay was written by Max Landis and directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad). The film stars Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Kenneth Choi, and Happy Anderson.
Bright will be released on Netflix on December 22, 2017.
