Welcome to the Legion!

Alfre Woodard

In an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed today that Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Lion King. She will be voicing Simba’s mom, Sarabi in the upcoming film.

Woodard will be joining a quickly growing cast consisting of Donald Glover (Simba), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Seth Rogan (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon), and John Oliver (Zazu). Disney has also recently brought on Chiwetel Ejiofor to voice the well-loved villain, Scar.

We have recently seen Alfre Woodard playing Mariah in Marvel’s Luke Cage, Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, and the Sundance film Burning Sands.

The official synopsis for the original animated film is below:

Disney’s The Lion King follows the adventures of the young lion Simba, the heir of his father, Mufasa. Simba’s wicked uncle, Scar, plots to usurp Mufasa’s throne by luring father and son into a stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon  and Pumbaa.
