Marvel’s next highly-anticipated superhero flick, Thor: Ragnarok, embraces its inherent 1980s nature (see every windowless van with valkyrie’s spray painted on the sides) and takes the god of thunder and his tricksy brother across the universe on an intergalactic adventure. Joining them Thor’s “friend from work” and Valkyrie, a new warrior played by Tessa Thompson.

Entertainment Weekly released two new, exclusive images from the film. Above, we see Valkyrie and Loki off in a knife fight.

“That fight was so much fun. So much fun,” Thompson told EW. “First of all. the choreography was really punchy and physical, not as much sword work which sort of keeps you at arm’s length with people. I think because Tom’s character is involved there’s a cheekiness to that fight that made it just really fun — it just felt like a tennis match. I don’t know if it remains but there were a lot of one-liners between us. So it has a real sort of sense of humor.”

When we first meet Valkyrie, she seems to have more in common with the trickster god than with our heroes, Thor and Hulk.

“Eventually she figures out Lok’s not to be trusted,” said Thompson. “I just think there’s something about two folks that kind of come from the same place in a sense, that have the same chip on their shoulder in a way. There’s a thin line between how much they hate and love each other.”

Below is the second image in which we see all four characters seemingly working as team.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
