Welcome to the Legion!

Left to right: Javier Bardem as Eli and Jennifer Lawrence as Grace

Paramount Pictures released four new TV Spots for Darren Aronofsky’s latest film mother! So far the marketing focus of this film has focused on the unsettling tension growing between the couple featured in the film and the strange occurrences that have arisen as the two are bombarded by strangers.

There is also something about this film that reads as a bit of a magnifying glass look at gaslighting. Every time I see Jennifer Lawrence’s character, I can’t help but feel she is being gaslighted. Is it me?

The official synopsis for the film is below:

mother! (which features both a lowercase”m” and an exclamation point as part of its official title) centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.

More conclusive details about the film have been kept underwraps. It has been rumored that the film has been inspired by the horror film Rosemary’s Baby. I can see in the marketing material how Rosemary’s Baby would have influenced the feeling of this film. It’s too soon to say how much the plot has been influenced by Polanski’s film.

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson, and Brian Gleeson. mother! was written and directed by Darren Aronofsky.

mother! will be released on September 15, 2017. What do you think of the TV Spots? Don’t they just ramp up all the suspense? Let us know in the comments below.
