‘The Jetsons’ Getting a Live-Action Reboot by Robert Zemeckis
Back To the Future‘s Robert Zemeckis is looking to bring back the 1960s Hanna-Barbera animated series, The Jetsons, and turn it into a live-action, multi-camera comedy. The new version will be written by Gary Janetti, who has worked on NBC’s Will & Grace and Fox’s Family Guy.
The original animated series debuted in 1962, and featured an atomic family living in the year 2062,a full century ahead of its time. Since 2062 is only 45 years away with nary a flying car in sight, the rebooted live-action comedy will be thrust our future family another 100 years ahead.
While nothing is set in stone just yet, ABC might be the best home for The Jetsons as far as television networks go. It is already home to a number of quality family programming such as Modern Family, Black-ish, The Goldbergs, Speechless, American Housewife, and Fresh Off the Boat. Additionally, The Jetsons used to air on ABC, even though it was for less than a season during primetime. It was brought back in 1985 for a two-season run in syndication, however.
As long as Judy Jetson has dreams to be a pop star, I’m in. Any excuse to call back to the 1990s movie. And to have totally out there music videos like one:
