It was revealed today in a Deadline exclusive that we will be seeing Sabrina the Teenage Witch return to the TV screen via a companion series to The CW’s Riverdale.

The CW has put ahead an order to adapt the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for the 2018-2019 television season. It isn’t surprising that they would be adapting this particular version of Sabrina as a companion series because it delves a lot deeper into the horror genre. The comic series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina delves into the dual nature of the character, forcing her to choose between embracing the witchiest parts of her self or becoming a mortal for life. My question is that, for the TV adaptation of this series, will they be updating the series to the modern day or will they focus on Sabrina in the 1960s like the comics?

The general description of what The CW will be focusing on is below:

The new project reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Luckily for us, the same team that has been working on Riverdale will also be working on the pilot for this companion series. So, if you’ve loved the series Riverdale so far, you will probably enjoy the new Sabrina series.

Now the only question I have left is, “Will we be able to see Sabrina on the newest season of Riverdale?” We will just have to wait and see.
