Today Warner Bros. Pictures released their first trailer for their upcoming Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander.
Watching the trailer, you can tell that they are drawing heavily from the 2013 video game reboot. The only new addition to this would be a heavier focus on Lara dealing with her father’s disappearance.
The official synopsis for the film is below:
The fate of humanity rests in her hands. Alicia Vikander is Lara Croft. Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared.

The Tomb Raider franchise has been undergoing a resurgence in popularity in recent years. The first game was published by London-based company Einos (now Square Enix) in 1996, introducing the world to the now infamous archeologist Lara Croft. The series faced some ups and downs, especially after the ill-received 2003 release of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. In 2013 the franchise was rebooted with a game that focused on the origin story of Lara Croft. The most recent game released in 2015 focused on the Rise of the Tomb Raider.
This is not the first time we have seen Lara Croft brought to the big screen. Paramount Pictures brought her to life with Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s.
The reboot also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu. It is being directed by Roar Uthaug, a Norwegian powerhouse that has become most known for his critically acclaimed film The Wave.
Tomb Raider will hit theaters on March 16, 2018. Let us know what you think about the trailer below.
