This week’s Lucifer begins with Lucifer making out with a woman back at his loft. Just before they are about to get into bed, Lucifer’s wings pop out. He apologizes, but the girl seems to like it and wants him to keep them out. Her attitude ruins Lucifer mood and so he asks her to leave so he can cut the wings off again.
We are then cut to Dr. Linda’s where she tells Lucifer she’s worried about him. She tells him that by repeatedly cutting his wings off, he is engaging in self-mutilation. She asks if he is any closer to finding out who has done this to him, and Lucifer tells her everything he knows so far about The Sinner Man. Lucifer is upset that The Sinner Man is trying to make him be something he is not by giving him his wings back and taking away his Devil face. He’s also mad because The Sinner Man apparently likes to give out favors to people, and Lucifer feels that’s his own territory.
Later at the precinct, Chloe claims to have found the man behind killing last week’s suspect. Lucifer does not feel the person in the picture that Chloe shows him is The Sinner Man. Chloe doesn’t think The Sinner Man exists and wants Lucifer to stop saying the phrase. As they are talking, Lt. Pierce approaches and tells them they have a new case to work on. (There’s something about this new Lt… I just don’t trust him. I really think he is going to end up playing into the bigger story arc this season. Maybe he IS the Sinner Man?)
Decker and Lucifer arrive at the crime scene. It’s near some train tracks and under a bridge. Detective Dan is on the scene and he informs them that the victim was a struggling comedian. Lucifer thinks that since Dan does improve, he could have a way to look into the case. Dan gets offended and states that improve is not the same thing as stand-up comedy. Ella approaches and says she knows who the victim is. He made news a few days previously because he believed a big-named comedian stole his jokes. Lucifer relates to the victim, as he feels the Sinner Man is stealing from him as well. We then see that the new Lt is spying on our heroes. (I KNEW he was sketchy! I KNEW IT!)
Back at Lux, Amenadiel meets up with Dr. Linda. She wants to thank Amenadiel for saving her life. She knows that he slowed time down so Maze could get her to the hospital on time. He wants to know how Dr. Lina is really doing, though. She congratulates Amenadiel for getting his powers back, but he says they haven’t worked since that day. He lets her know he needs help with something, and she wants to be the one to help him. It turns out that all pairs of wings Lucifer has been cutting off aren’t disappearing. Amenadiel has been hiding them so no mortal can find them, and he doesn’t know what to do with them anymore.
After a short scene where Lt. Pierce asks Dan for any intel he may have on Lucifer, we are cut to Ella, Decker, and Lucifer who are on their way to question the comedian whom our victim claimed was a thief. Ella is completely star struck, but the comedian is being a complete jerk. Despite how rude he is being, Ella still just thinks he’s wonderful. The comedian needs to start recording his show so our heroes go to watch. The show is a ridiculous show involving puppets, and Lucifer isn’t amused. He stands up and approaches the stage in the middle of recording. He begins to accost the comedian for stealing a dead man’s work and turning into something so silly. He takes one of the puppets and puts it on to mock the show, but there’s a gun in the puppet that goes off and accidentally shoots Lowe, the comedian, in the arm.
Backstage where the comedian is getting first aid, the comedian admits that the gun was his. Lucifer uses his powers to get the comedian to confess what he really desires. Apparently, he’s completely miserable and wants out of his show. He hates it. He also states that he really did steal the jokes, but he didn’t kill our victim. The comedian received death threats from someone who claimed all the jokes were about him. However, the only person who knew who the jokes were about was the victim.
Lucifer is back at his loft and on the phone with Maze. He’s asking her to try to find out who the Sinner Man. Lt. Pierce is there with him though… lurking. Being a creepy McCreepster. Lt. Pierce says he knows who Lucifer is. Pierce knows about the Sinner Man, and so he wants to warn Lucifer about looking into him. Pierce thinks Lucifer is an idiot and thinks the Sinner Man will definitely kill Lucifer if he isn’t careful. Pierce states that the Sinner Man killed someone very close to him, and he doesn’t want to see it happen again. Lucifer is offended that anyone would doubt his ability to take someone on, and he tells Pierce he will handle the Sinner Man.
After we see Dr. Linda and Amenadiel burn Lucifer’s wings, we see Lucifer attempt to tell Chloe about his run-in with the lieutenant, but Dan approaches and interrupts. They have a crack in the case and need to have someone get on stage in order to upset their new suspect and bring him forward. Dan ends up being the one to go on stage.
Later that night at the club, Dan goes on stage at an open mic night. Dan is failing miserably, and so Lucifer starts to heckle him. Chloe realizes that Lucifer might be on to something and encourages him to keep going. Lucifer and Dan go back and forth making jokes about small penises, the subject of the jokes that upset our new suspect. The plan worked, and the new suspect comes forward.
After interrogation, they realize that the new suspect is innocent, and the real killer is Bobby Lowe’s (the famous comedian) warm-up comedian. They go to where the show is filmed in order to find her and question her. At first, it seems they may be alone, but then Chloe walks in on Bobby Lowe who is on the ground after having been knocked down by Sheila. Lucifer is the one who finds Sheila and Chloe distracts her and gives Lucifer opportunity to knock Shelia out.
Back at the station, Lt. Pierce confronts Lucifer again. He states that if Lucifer isn’t going to back off The Sinner Man, then he will work with Lucifer on it, but only in secret. Lt. Pierce doesn’t want anyone else to know about it since they might get hurt if they do. Lucifer starts to bring up Chloe, but Lt. Pierce reminds Lucifer that she has a child, and therefore will be kept out of it. He allows Lucifer to interrogate the killer of last week’s victim, but the man truly doesn’t know anything about The Sinner Man. He killed the guy because he was sleeping with his girlfriend.
Lucifer goes to see Dr. Linda about his dilemma about The Sinner Man. However, Dr. Linda wants to talk about his wings. She tells him that he needs to stop cutting them off. He realizes that she’s right, and he is just going to tuck them back and pretend they don’t exist from now on. He also realizes that he needs to stop worrying about the fact that The Sinner Man is doing favors for people, and he needs to just get back into that game. The last thing we see is a long line of people at Lux, all waiting to have favors granted by Lucifer.
This Sinner Man storyline has seriously gotten me hooked. Also, regardless of what Lt. Pierce may say, I don’t believe him one bit. I really think he will end up being a much more nefarious character. Also, Maze’s absence is still felt, but since she returns next week that should be fixed. There was great humor in this episode brought on by the many penis jokes, and Ella had some absolutely endearing moments. All in all, this was a pretty good episode, even though not a whole lot happened. Next week’s should be amazing, though and I can’t wait.
Lucifer airs on FOX on Mondays at 8PM ET.
