Today 20th Century Fox released the teaser trailer for their upcoming X-Men universe film, New Mutants, and it makes my horror loving heart so happy.
Throughout the course of the trailer, we get to see what looks to be a more realistic version of what it would be like to be a mutant coming of age. And it is downright horrifying.
One of the things that I have personally always wanted from an X-Men movie was to make it come across as a horror movie. We all know that when mutants come of age, it’s a freaky time. Not only are they dealing with puberty, but then they have all of these mysterious powers and everything usually goes wrong. It’s a perfect set up for a horror movie.
Why do I say this? Well, we have movies like Carrie and Firestarter to guide the way and to help build that image of how an X-Men movie could go the horror route. It has always been a plausible scenario, showing the true horrors of becoming a mutant versus the more touched upon heroic side of things.
The cast of New Mutants consists of Anya Taylor-Joy as Magick, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, newcomer Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. As you’ll see in the trailer, we also will be getting a CGI version of Warlock. The film is directed by Josh Boone.
New Mutants will be arriving in theaters on April 13, 2018. What do you think of the trailer? Do you agree with my thoughts on taking the horror route? Let us know in the comments below.
