Universal Pictures released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming dystopian adaptation Mortal Engines. The film is based off of the British series of novels by Philip Reeve.
This is a series that I am unfamiliar with so, at first glance, the premise of gigantic moving cities swallowing up smaller mobile towns seems to be an interesting concept, but I am not sure how else I should interpret the premise. I am sure you guys will have various thoughts, especially if you’ve read the series before.
The official synopsis is below:
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) – who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London – finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
