See the future in READY PLAYER ONE

READY PLAYER ONE trailer shows us the future.

Warner Bros. Pictures released a new trailer for READY PLAYER ONE, which helps us to show us the future as the characters know it in the film.

READY PLAYER ONE is a film directed by Steven Spielberg based on the Ernest Cline novel of the same name. The film stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival, Olivia Cooke as Art3mis, and Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday.

In the film, the world is slowly ending and most everyone finds joy in the virtual reality known as OASIS. After the death of the creator of OASIS, James Halliday, a message is released that leaves a massive fortune for whoever can find a certain digital easter egg. From there, a young hero named Wade Watts joins in on the adventure of discovery and danger. Below is the latest trailer which also contains commentary on the creation of the film.

For fans of the novel, it’s great news that the director is working with the author in order to create the film. Many films based on novels lack this connection. The film in and of itself is a love letter to the 80’s and partially the 90’s. Many “90’s babies” will love this film. Aesthetically, the film lives within the juxtaposition of Wade’s reality and the world of OASIS. The “stacks”, a trailer park or slum of sorts, is contrasted by the locales presented in OASIS. This helps enhance the escapist aspects of Wade’s character. This film is made for fans of the novel and that’s highly respectable.

READY PLAYER ONE will arrive in theaters March 30, 2018, in 3D and 2D in select theaters as well as IMAX. Make sure you check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts.
