History Channel’s Vikings showcases Lagertha

Time’s Up for the men in History Channel’s Vikings.

The media has been abuzz about the Time’s Up initiative that took over Sunday night’s Golden Globe awards. The attendees were almost in a sea of black to show their support for the movement. The Time’s Up movement focuses on supporting female equality and fighting sexual harassment.

We also got to witness several amazing speeches from women, which focused on female and minority empowerment. Now it looks like History Channel is taking the moment to utilize the momentum of the Time’s Up initiative by focusing their promo on Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), who delivers a speech that honestly could have been taken from last Sunday night’s award ceremony.

You can read the transcription from EW below:

What is a woman’s place in this world? Is it to be docile? Compliant? Or simply silent? No. The gods have bigger plans for you, I swear it. You are bold. You are strong. You are cunning. You are wise. You are sharp from keeping constant watch. You are powerful for making your voice heard. Your place may be as a warrior or as queen, but only you hold the reins to that destiny. So, be bold, and the gods will carry you to greatness with no one strong enough to stop you.

The transcribed speech above is beautiful, but the text itself is not as powerful as Katheryn Winnick’s delivery. She is the selling point in the promotional video as she delivers each word with specific meaning. If you want to check out the video, head on over to Entertainment Weekly here.

The broad general synopsis of the Vikings series is as follows:

Viking Ragnar Lothbrok is a young farmer and family man who is frustrated by the policies of Earl Haraldson, his local chieftain who sends his Viking raiders east to the Baltic states and Russia, whose residents are as poor as the Norsemen. Ragnar wants to head west, across the ocean, to discover new civilizations. With assistance from his friend Floki, Ragnar builds a faster, sleeker fleet of boats to help him make it to the Western world. Through the years Ragnar, who claims to be a direct descendant of the god Odin, continues to struggle with Earl until the two face each other in a final battle for supremacy. Following that, Ragnar goes on a search for new lands to conquer.
