Kristen Wiig to play the role of Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2
Deadline has confirmed that Warner Bros. and DC are in talks with Kristen Wiig (SNL, Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) to prowl into the role of Cheetah, Wonder Woman’s archenemy, in Wonder Woman 2.
There have been four different Cheetahs since 1943, originally created by William Moulton Marston. She first appeared in Wonder Woman #6. The third and most popular is archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva, created in 1987 by the late, great, Len Wein and George Perez. Ambitious, selfish, and severely neurotic, Barbara develops a passion for archaeology that eventually led her to search out a tribe in Africa who utilizes a female guardian with the powers of a cheetah.
Kristen Wiig is just what Wonder Woman 2 needs to stay fresh and unique. Wiig has proven to be a versatile performer from her years on Saturday Night Live to independent projects like The Skeleton Twins to her cameo at the 2015 Grammys, dancing to Sia’s performance of Chandelier.
Wonder Woman 2 is set in the 80s in the Cold War and see’s director Patty Jenkins returning behind the camera and Gal Gadot, in the title role. Jenkins is currently co-writing the script with Dave Callaham (Jean-Claude Van Johnson, The Expendables) and DC Films co-chairman Geoff Johns.
The film took in $821 million at the global box office and was a critical and audience success.
