Today Warner Bros. Pictures released a new movie poster for their upcoming dystopian sci-fi adaptation Ready Player One. In this poster, it definitely taps into the 80’s nostalgia that the marketing has heavily emphasized throughout the course of their music.
For audience members who haven’t read the book, the poster definitely gives them an idea of what the focus will be for characters in the world of the movie. Again, we see various references like the Iron Giant and Back to the Future, which further entrenches us with the belief that the 1980’s is a nostalgic time period for the people in the world.
Ready Player One is based off of Ernest Cline’s novel of the same name.
The film stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival, Olivia Cooke as Art3mis, and Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday.
The official synopsis is below:
Set in the 2045, Parzival plays a virtual reality game entitled OASIS. The game is a way for him to feel like he actually matters in this dark, gritty world and he is one of the many who seemingly spend their time this way.
OASIS was designed by Halliday and the player who can uncover the Easter eggs left behind by Halliday first, wins.
